I owe you! Megan Walker, thank you for helping with this design.I hope this mural brings on a lot of smiles for years to come. And especially thank you to all my power painters who helped get this done in good spirits: Henry, Leda, Patrick, Matthew, Tess, Dalannah, and Sherman. Thank you to all who stopped with encouragement and glee. The support we received from the Whiteaker Community Art Team was above and beyond my expectations - thank you for all the popsicles, water, snacks, and kindness. Pentatonic major has 5 notes: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th. (of course from there comes the tough part, I'll have to figure out how to translate that into pentatonic scales, would appreciate any help in that regard.) C myxilodian, D minor, E locrian, and an F major. So following jazz chord progession from F, that gives me an F major, a G dorian, A Phrygian, Bb Lydian. G Mixolydian (major scale formula but with a minor 7th)ī Locrian (minor scale formula but with a flat 3nd & flat 5th) Originally Posted by: jaelerI asked the question, what modes would follow the C scale.ĭ Dorian (minor scale formula but with a major 6th)Į Phrygian (minor scale formula but with a flat 2nd)į Lydian (major scale formula but with a sharp 4th) I'll look up those tutorials as well, just learning a mode (and chord mode) a week, I'll get confused if I add more than that C myxilodian, D minor, E locrian, and an F major, all the same scale, which would be a 15 fret scale run. D, E, G, F, and B so a D dorian, an E Phrygian, an F Lydian G myxilodian and a B Locrian. I think the answer would be A which is easy cause I'm working with c, a B dorian, lets see, A major scale, need to look at piano, F#) I checked it on the scale finder, I was correct.īack to the original question, what modes would follow C scale? The answer is obvious, if C and A are taken by major/minor scales, only 5 options are left, 5 modes. (I was actually answering the wrong question, they asked me what is the 5th note of a D dorian scale, don't know, don't care, I was working on the scale conversions. This is where I made my original mistake, I oversimplified the math. The answer accounted for the weird chord pattern in my prior calculations. I asked the question, what modes would follow the C scale. I reverse engineered my prior calculations. Might have found something even better, that works off your jazz chords. I've moved from Fminor to Fmajor, just a single half step from Ab to A, and that makes a big difference. Its not the same as a Cminor, just a one note difference. Now If I'm playing a Cminor a Gminor and an Fmajor, that's a dorian scale. As a keyboard player, I don't really think about them, (that's where keys are different from guitar, an F# will always be the first black key of the three, I know every note I play, modes are more a guitar thing.) I just follow the chords. (we don't count the root note in all this, which is why only seven counts)Ĭan also add the importance of modes. Pretty sure this is all right though.īTW, the basis of my deduction is that modes follow the pattern of the major scale, whole, whole half, whole whole, whole, half, just at a different increment, so they must correspond to a different major scale. Of course It would have to be the 6th off of the alternate scale, so a mixolodian scale off of c would be a d minor,(or an F major) I'll let you figure out the math from there, but mode interval + 6minorĪnd feel free to correct if I'm wrong on any of my math. (can also add, a major scale always has a relative minor from the 6th, so that would make a c aeolionan an Eb scale or a #2) (bit confusing, an A minor is a Cmajor, which is what I mean by a relative minor) Also good to know, because you can use a 6 minor to extend range as well. This means a dorian will always be a #6, phyrgian a #5, Lydian a 5, Mixolxdian a 4, and a locrian a #1 (major) A dorian is a a#/Bb scale, a Phrygian is a G#/Ab scale, a Lydian a G, a mixolodian is an F scale, the Locrian is a Db/c# scale (major) This is important, because it gives an easy way to extend the range of mode scales. I'm reviewing modes atm, and so I want to answer the question correctly. (this was way beyond scope of the lesson, I used my theory) My mistake was I placed those intervals along the major scale. I correctly deduced that modes were based on major scales at another interval. (music theory at cc, aced class) It was the only question on the finals I missed. About 26 years ago, I had a question on modes. By trade I'm a keyboard player, so I have a fairly good technical knowledge of music theory. There are two types of testimony: 1) the account of an eyewitness, and 2) the judgment of an expert who has had the chance to examine and interpret the facts. The final type of evidence used in writing a convincing argument is Testimony. The success or failure of the entire argument rests on whether or not the writer can utilize adequate reasoning in coming to the right judgments. There is nothing in the history books or newspapers that can prove this assumption to be true. This would be a judgment on the writer's part. From these facts, the writer concludes that the disaster could have been avoided if a few scientists been willing to speak up about some unsettling findings. For example, a writer could start by presenting certain facts about the knowledge that scientists had regarding the condition of the Challenger prior to takeoff. These are assumptions that the writer makes about his/her subject after carefully considering the facts. It is necessary for the writer to utilize Judgments as well. Judgmentįacts, however, cannot carry the entire argument. This would then force the reader to agree with the writer on at least one point. For instance, if a writer wanted to argue that smoking is a detriment to your health, he/she would begin by citing factual information about the large number of people who die every year from smoke-related diseases. Facts are used primarily to get the reader to stand on the writer's plane of reasoning. A statement declaring, "On January 28, 1986, the shuttle Challenger exploded upon lift-off," must be accepted by the reader, since it is a historical certainty. Since facts are indisputable, the writer automatically wins the reader’s mutual agreement by utilizing them. Factsįacts are among the best tools to involve the reader in the argument. See also the page on logic and argumentation. This page explores the types of evidence used in argumentation. These categories are Fact, Judgment, and Testimony. There are three main categories of evidence that are essential to gain the audience's confidence in the writer's assertions. If the writer is going to make some headway with an argument, however, he/she must be able to give evidence to support the claims the paper will make. With it, the writer attempts to win the reader over to his/her view of the topic, or, at the very least, to show the reader a new perspective about the subject discussed. This claim is better known as the writer's argument. In most papers, the writer’s aim is to find a topic and make a claim about it. This also had photos that were possibly CP (once again, I couldn’t exactly tell if the photos were minors, but some looked like it). After I closed the tab, the Google Drive tab opened automatically since it was the next tab over. I clicked on the Dropbox tab, and once I noticed it had some questionable CP (couldn’t tell if it was underaged minors or not), I closed the tab right away. However, I simultaneously opened up a Google Drive link and another Dropbox link. Since most Dropboxes had "Errors", I decided to open a few more. Two links loaded and they had legal porn. Most of them had an "Error" sign when I clicked on them. The link led me to a pastern website with a bunch of Dropbox links. I knew it was probably I bad idea, and I really regret doing this, but I clicked on it just to see what the files were. I was on a Discord NSFW server and someone posted a link that had a bunch of dropbox files on it. A Shed Roof can be made with trusses or rafters. Shed Roofs are used in simple agriculture buildings (below) and state of the art modern buildings (right). While a 2×6 might be nearly double the cost of a 2×4, you can likely space the 2圆s further apart, negating the added expense of increasing your lumber width. The Shed Roof Calculator functions include: A Shed Roof is a roof with a single slope. 2×6 shed roof rafters are enough for nearly any type of shed a homeowner wants to build. The imposed load should be calculated in accordance with BS 6399:Part 3:1988 Code of practice for imposed roof loads, as a rule of thumb for altitudes not exceeding 100m you can use a uniformly distributed load of 0.75 kN/m² and for most other areas exceeding 100m but not exceeding 200m you can use 1 kN/m², for parts of Scotland, Pennines, North East England and heights over 200m you will need to refer to BS 6399 Part 3.Īs there are no brittle finishes e.g. The Shed Roof Calculator has functions and data related to a single sloped roof (aka Shed Roof). Rafters are to have minimum end bearing of 35mm. Wane as allowed in BS 4978:2007+A2:2017 is permitted in all sections included in these span tables. Timber to be covered, these span tables do not apply to timber which is fully exposed to the elements. Holes and notches cannot be drilled or cut into the rafters unless proved adequate by specialist calculations. The calculations on which these span tables are based conservatively assume that the rafters are not continuous over the purlins, but they can be continuous over the supporting purlin if required. These span tables are based on the assumption that the tiling battens fastened to the top of the rafters will provide adequate lateral restraint and also ensure that lateral loads are distributed. It is also assumed ceiling joists will be used to transmit the horizontal component of thrust occurring at eaves level to complementary rafters. These span tables only apply to roof systems with four or more rafters. These span tables do not apply to trussed rafter roofs. The dead loads shown at the top of span table above do not include the self weight of the rafters, however, the rafter self weights are included (in addition to the dead loads) in the calculations used to determine permissble clear spans. The allowable clear spans have been calculated in accordance with BS 5268-2:2002 Structural use of timber - Part 2: Code of practice for permissible stress design, materials and workmanship and BS 5268-7.5:1990 Structural use of timber - Section 7.5 Domestic rafters. Dead load per square metre (in kN/m²) supported by raftersĬentre-to-centre spacing of rafters (in mm) First step, lets collect all the given information within the question: Ceiling not attached to rafters and a snow load of 30 psf: Use Table R802.4.1 (3) Roof Rafter Spacing: 12 inches.
Usually I was right about their expertise level but I was wrong about one thing – they didn’t “forgot” to turn these ON.Įxplaining to the client that you would probably have to refactor 80% of the code to change that “simple option” is something I wouldn’t want to go through again. When I was Junior Developer, I was so happy/angry when I discovered someone didn’t turn these ON since I was thinking that technical level of Developers who worked on site was low and we can do a lot to improve site… and of course, I could get a “quick win” with turning merging/minifying ON. Since i’m Frontend Developer, performance is my key point during analysis.įirst thing I check is wether Javascript and CSS files are merged/minified/bundled (hello bundle). One of our services is Technical audit which covers various tests on both Frontend and Backend part of the client’s store. Right before we start with “reverse” optimisation, we can use bundling to help us organise our assets and serve less files to the client which will (should) result in faster website. You could still use bundling for reducing the number of requests for a specific page but I don’t think it will be worth of it. HTTP2 is here so this technique will be probably deprecated in the future. For loading modules, we usually use some of popular module loaders such as rollup.js or RequireJS (which is Magento’s weapon of choice). Bundling is commonly used in today’s “module-based” development where some functionalities are basically split into Modules (roughly explained). Thank you for your continued support.Javascript bundling is a technique that groups separate files in order to reduce the number of HTTP requests that are required to load a page. Make the blur 60, keep distance at 10 and set rotate to 180. With the letter selected, click on Shadow in the top toolbar and open the settings.Reduce the size of the text box bounding by dragging the edges in – this will make it easier to work with this effect for the rest of the design. Then typeset the first letter of your word, eg the letter ‘S’. Start by adding a text box to your design, and selecting a bold font.In this part of the tutorial, Kris shows you how to add shadows onto your text – but not like you’ve used them before! You’ll create individual letters to create shade between each letter pair: To change the color, go to Effects (in the Actionbar) and bring the brightness slider down to -100. Go to images, select ‘Stock Images’ and search for ‘fade’. To finish off this effect, add in an extra fade.Update the background color to black, and drop the opacity of the reflection to 40 percent. Then right-click, and select ‘Send to Back’. You can use your arrow keys to get the perfect position. Click flip vertically in the Actionbar and shift it down. Select crop in the Actionbar and bring in the edges like this.Stretch the edges so it fits the proportions of your canvas and it sits over the original text. Select it and drop it onto your canvas. The image will be saved to your ‘My Images’ section! Then click Download, choose PNG, and check ‘Export to my Images’. To do this, go to your Colors pop-out, and change the background color to transparent. To create the text reflection effect, you’ll need to make a copy of the text and convert it to an image so it can be flipped. Click to add your chosen gradient to fill your text. Then go to Images in the sidebar, select Stock Images and search ‘Gradient’. To add the gradient to your text, ensure it’s selected and then click on ‘Mask’ from the Actionbar. Then apply a condensed font – Kris has used Oswald Bold. From the right sidebar in the editor, add a new text box and type in your text.Follow Kris’s steps to recreate this text style: This next effect combines a font filled with gradient color, and teamed with a reflective effect. Some other good one to try are Anton and Jost Black. Hot tip: By opening the Layers panel and selecting both text items you can then try out different fonts using the same effect. With both flares still selected, duplicate them again and re-position as per Kris’ example. Click ‘align middle’ and position them on the edges of your letters. Select both flares and use the align tool again. To adjust the lighting effect to white, click on effects in the Actionbar and drop the brightness slider down to -100 Then check the Invert toggle to make it white. To get an extra accent duplicate it and make it slightly smaller. Adjust the size and move it over the top of your letters. Add in some lighting accents by going to images, selecting Stock Images and search for ‘flare’.Select both text boxes and use the align tool to position them exactly. With the foreground text selected go back to the shadow button in the Actionbar, choose glow again and update the blur slider to 8, and set it to white.Remember glowing effects generally work best on darker or super saturated colors. To create the foreground glow, duplicate your text and update the color to match the background.Update the blur slider to 70 and choose the same bright pink we use in the text. With the text selected, click on the shadow button in the Actionbar and select the glow preset. This effect is made by using 2 types of glows, a background and a foreground glow.Change the background color of the graphic to black by clicking off any elements (eg to the side of the page) and then choose black from the color picker from the top toolbar.Choose a hot pink to duplicate the effect created in our example. Apply a bright color to the text by selecting it and clicking on the color options. In this example, Kris has used Black Hans Sans for its retro styling and boldness. Add text to your design by adding from the ‘Text’ tab on the right sidebar. This is a great effect to use on Black Friday and Cyber Monday graphics, as well as Halloween posters and graphics. In this first effect, Kris shows you how to use dark text on an equally dark background, and use a hot pink glow to make it stand out. |
